As Sweet as a Chestnut
11th July 2008
A leading global provider of quality capital equipment and turnkey systems for liquid processing industries has supplied and installed a system incorporating three new milk tanks at Chestnut Dairies as part of an ongoing major investment project.
Chestnut Dairies turned to Tetra Pak CPS, with whom it has had a 25 year long association, to supply the new equipment at its site in Hull as part of a modernisation programme.
Upgrading the milk intake and distribution systems has enabled its customer to fulfil its need for better processes with greater control. This has led to improved milk quality and throughput resulting in an increase in business with the supermarket giant Sainsbury's.
To meet flexibility, product security and budgetary constraints, new flow plates were included in the modernisation at Chestnut Dairies, which linked to the company's existing Cleaning In Place system, enabling both lines and tanks to be cleaned simultaneously.
A great deal of time is being saved at the dairy factory thanks to the improved systems that are now in place. There is greater flexibility in terms of cleaning as the tanks can now be cleaned individually, together with increased capacity and longer storage as the new tanks have the ability to chill the milk.
Milk is now control pump fed instead of gravity fed, which means that the product has more accurate handling from the tanks to the fillers, where it is packaged.
Joint Owner of Chestnut Dairies, Mrs Sue Varley, commented on the project: "Our investment into the company has been an ongoing process with the aim to improve our systems, get more product security and reduce man hours. Tetra Pak CPS has been an integral part of our recent modernisation – their straightforward, no nonsense approach has been thoroughly refreshing and the changes they have made have had a direct positive impact on the business."
Tetra Pak CPS is renowned for its flexibility and cost effective solutions that can be tailored specifically to customer needs. The company has always been able to give customers choice, whether it be a particular component manufacturer or a flexible implementation approach.
Mrs Varley said: "The entire operation with Tetra Pak CPS has been trouble free – I cannot fault it in any way. The expertise shown from the technical advisers, engineers and sales force was extremely impressive. I would recommend the company to anyone who is looking for attention to detail, and quality of both service and equipment and in-depth knowledge."
